This is mainly determined by what the student wants and is totally flexible based on what is providing the most benefit. The common ways coaching sessions are conducted:
Skype Sweat This is probably the most common method of coaching. I would watch you play a few tables and give advice along the way. I can tell you how I would play the hand or I can allow you to play as you normally would and then provide advice after you have made your play. Alternatively, you can watch me play and I would provide commentary throughout. In most cases I can even play in the same games you play in so you can see how I would play in your games, not how I play in my games. Video Review A video review involves the student recording a video with audio commentary of their thoughts on each hand. I would review the video and give feedback to the student on their play. We would discuss the results over Skype or IM. This type of session can help the student with in-depth advice in specific spots but also allows me to comment on general style and game flow issues. Hand History Review Here, you would send me some hand histories from a recent session I would review them before our session. Then we would discuss them together over Skype or IM. I would ask you questions about your thought process and I would give you my thoughts on the hand. In some cases we can go very in-depth and use tools like Pokerstove along with some math to determine the best plays. |
