The two forms of coaching I do most often are live skype sweat sessions and hand history hand-reading/theory discussion.
Skype Sweat Basically what a typical skype session involves is me watching you play a session (preferably 4-tabling), and you telling me your hole cards over AIM. For the first session. (about an hour) I would generally just watch you play and make a few comments. Afterwards I would tell you what your most glaring leaks are and things of that nature. Then ideally you would go off and play a session or two before having another coaching session with me. At this point you'd tell me how things are progressing and also tell me if you've been having any particular problems. Then I would again watch you play over while talking over skype except I will tell you what I would do at every decision that is made (aside from J4o vs. raises etc.). This way you can really start adding some unconventional plays and such to your arsenal. If you're enjoying it we'd basically just have a 5 minute chat before and after every session (of me watching/talking while you play) and together we would refine and sharpen your game.
Hand History Hand-Reading/Theory Again this would be done over Skype. I used to just do the other coaching, but a new student came along and asked me if I could do this, we started doing it and he absolutely LOVES it. What I basically do is select maybe 6 really interesting hands that I (or perhaps a student of mine) has played and we go over it street by street and have an in-depth analysis of each and every decision in the hand. At each point I will ask you what you think the opponent's hand range is and how we should react to maximize our EV, and then I will give you my take on the same question when you're done. Each hand usually takes about 10 minutes this way and results in good deep discussion. Similarly, you could put aside a handful of hands you've played recently and bring them to this discussion and we could discuss them the same way.
And of course I coach to help the students out, so if you had something else in mind you can just let me know what it is and I'll see what I can do. |
